Fun and games this morning. Normally I’m using Inset infusion sets on my YpsoPump, but decided last night to test out an Orbit Micro 2.0 again.
It’s a Saturday and I woke around 9:00. Padded off to the bathroom, came back, and was wondering what was going on. What on earth was I doing above 10 and steadily climbing?
So can you guess at what time the tubing became disconnected from the site?
I was wearing my pump in a running belt and somehow it became disconnected and the tubing was hanging loose. But because I don’t have to carry the pump when I get up (and because I’ve never had an Inset disconnect) I didn’t immediately notice.
We get used to the way the gear we use behaves. I do think it’s not a bad idea to change things up every now and then to see if there’s a different setup that works better for us. Even if something doesn’t go right, it’s usually a learning experience.
I’ve used all the Ypso sets and would be confident using any of them in a shortage. For reference I’ve been pumping since 2010 and mainly YpsoPumping since 2019. In this case the initial result wasn’t great, but it has reminded me to keep a closer eye on the connection (including rotating it after attachment to ensure it’s on). I had remembered how to effectively heat-activate the adhesive.
After reconnecting, luckily my AID system allowed me to delete the treatment records after 7:00 so it didn’t think I had all that missing insulin in play. The CGM continued to go up for a little while as the system threw lots of insulin at it, but then it turned rapidly. In the end I must say it “stuck the landing” nicely. I was meanwhile getting on with my day.
I’ve usually taken Orbit Soft sets off after 2 days or I tend to get the little raised “nipples”. I realised this after one time letting a Micro (the original version) run to 3 days and getting the same effect.
I’m planning to run this Micro 2.0 (and maybe the next site) out to 3 days (even though it’s supposed to be changed at 2) to see if I have a different reaction to the 2.0 materials. Then I’ll probably go back to my regular Insets.
Thanks for the update. Really love hearing from other T1Ds who manage it differently what to look out for. This is really valuable information.
