Control-IQ in Australia

It seems Control-IQ is finally starting to roll out. AMSL have been saying they expect to roll out Control-IQ for the Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pump in April, and in fact their website still refers to the Basal-IQ firmware.

But today at least one person been able to proceed through the firmware updates for their pumps and are starting on Control-IQ v7.6!
Hopefully it continues to roll out for more people in the coming weeks.

Some online training modules need to be completed first, but then just like previous updates the software can be installed via internet download (signed to that user’s pump) and a USB connection.

Control-IQ is Tandem’s AID (Automated Insulin Delivery) system, a hybrid closed-loop that tries to both increase and decrease the insulin flow as required to keep your BG in-range. It’s been used in the US for some time now, and seems to finally be reaching both Australia and New Zealand at around the same time.
It’s the second commercial AID system to reach the Australian market (well, Medtronic’s 670G/770G has recently been superceded by their 780G, so maybe it’s the third).

I’m sure we’ll soon be hearing a lot from users who have been waiting for Control-IQ for a very long time!

  1. Do we still need the useless approval from a DE or endo to get the update? They really should get rid of that step of it’s still required.

  2. Is the control IQ an upgrade from basal IQ?
Or do you have to choose one or the other?
We are about to commence the tslim with basal IQ as of Monday but obviously we want control IQ to operate- how will this be possible ?
